December 20: Nightly News

Nightly News

Lucky’s  ears and tail are tucked tight.
Intermittent shivers sweep her body.

Her eyes dart between us
knowing one or another is about to sound scary.

Her favorite commercial music intervenes.
A happy dog dances across the screen.

Lucky jumps up and barks with all her heart                                                                                                                                and we suddenly remember how to laugh
after which we quickly change the channel.

Tomorrow is a new day.                                                                                                                                                                   But tonight, we can at least make one dog happy.
