#9 The Wisdom Collection: In the Gap

We who are older, wiser, fiercer have moments when we experience ourselves to be merged with the divine—where we know we are capable of acting in concord with God’s will for us. In the moment, we know we are good and that life is inherently meaningful.

But it doesn’t stick. It’s easier when we are in the grip of suffering to cry out for mercy and accept God’s gracious embrace. But when things are even one click short of annihilation, life drags us back into the mundane.

I only experience moments of unity some times, but I experience the yearning for merger most of the time and in the gap is where I find myself living much of my life.  How does one reconcile one’s experience and one’s aspirations?

Perhaps the answer is hidden in plain sight. For it is in the gap that creativity arises.  In the breech is where we aspire, we explore, we redeem, we experiment, we practice and we build.  There are times, too, when all we can do is persist, but this also implies some lure drawing us forward towards hope, however dimly felt.
