Confessions of a (former) Boomer Marketer

Dear Friends, it’s been awhile since I last wrote.   I’m back now—but if you look around CarolOrsborn.com, you’ll see that there has been a profound shift in tone and content.

In brief, during my absence, I finally let go of my “day job” as a marketer helping brands build relationships with Boomers.  I am now immersed in the spirituality and aging universe.  This transition has been a long time coming, but still, this leaving behind of old, comfortable identities—no matter how outgrown–takes more than a little getting used to!

I’ve been a marketer all of my adult life, specializing in the Boomer demographic since I wrote my first of 21 books for/about my generation in 1986 Enough is Enough:  Exploding the Myth of Having it All.  I was in my 30’s then, and discovered that as a leading-edge Boomer myself, whatever life stage I was experiencing brought insights I could share with both my fellow Boomers as well as marketing professionals who were just ahead of the curve.

Until recently, I believed that I could continue to share my insights about Boomers with marketers, but from the perspective of aging as a spiritual path.  I soon learned, however, that this message is not one that most marketers find useful professionally.  I went silent to save myself from turning into a righteous but angry prophet passing judgment on those who are perpetuating the $88 billion anti-aging industry.

My decision to formalize this transition raises a whole new set of questions.  What is aging for?  Is there value to society to withdraw from the mainstream to develop one’s self spiritually?  Can I share what I’m learning and experiencing without being caught up in old, outgrown patterns of ambition and drive?  What if the conscious aging movement really catches fire?  What are the implications for society and fulfillment of the human potential?  There’s more, of course, but this is more than enough for starters.

I appreciate that you subscribed to the website the way it was, and sincerely hope you’ll take this leap of faith alongside me.  Fierce with Age:  The Digest of Boomer Wisdom, Inspiration and Spirituality, my sister site, will continue to feature the inspired work of mystics, contemplatives, thinkers and wise elders.  CarolOrsborn.com will now be my personal platform as I increasingly rise to the occasion of aging as a spiritual path.  One thing I’ve already figured out.  Life is full of surprises.

If you haven’t already, I invite you to subscribe to both websites. I can promise you it’s going to be quite a ride!
